ArtJob (Carnegie Mellon users only)
ArtJob is a resource for arts employment and opportunities in the U.S. It provides a continually updated job list as well as postings for fellowships, residencies, grants, exhibitions, calls for artists and participation in events. Users can also access an employer database, links to arts agencies and organizations, and other opportunity-related arts links.
Art Abstracts (Carnegie Mellon users only)
1987- (updated monthly)
Art Abstracts contains citations and abstracts for articles, reviews, and art reproductions in 300+ key international arts periodicals. It covers all aspects of art and art history including related disciplines of architecture, archeology, design, film, museology, and photography.

Community of Science (Carnegie Mellon users only)
Community of Science is a global registry designed to provide accurate, timely, easy-to-access information about what new funding opportunities exist, and who is working on what subject, and where. "Science" in this context is defined along the lines of the Latin word "scientia," meaning "knowledge."

ProQuest Direct (Carnegie Mellon users only)
1986- (updated daily)
ProQuest provides access to ABI/Inform (a business database), scholarly and general periodicals in the social sciences, and major newspapers including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. This is a good source for searching general management issues. Many documents are available in full text.
Web of Science (Carnegie Mellon users only)
1945- (updated weekly)
Web of Science is a multidisciplinary database, with searchable author abstracts, covering the literature of the sciences, social sciences and the arts & humanities. Users may choose to search across all the databases, or select just one. This unique database indexes and links cited references for each article. All formats provide complete bibliographic data and additional features, such as cited reference searching, links to related articles, plus author and publisher addresses.
- Features
  - Cited Reference Searching
    You can search the citation data (the footnotes of each article), taking a known relevant paper and finding other, more recent, papers that cite it. You can locate all cited authors, not just first authors, for articles in the database.
  - Related Records
    You can find records that share one or more cited references, yielding additional relevant results.
- Separate Databases:
  - Arts & Humanities Citation Index (1975-present)
    A&HCI covers 1300 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals, plus a selection of related social science journals. Documents indexed include articles, bibliographies, editorials, letters and reviews.
  - Science Citation Index Expanded (1945-present)
    SCI-EXPANDED covers the journal literature of the sciences. It indexes more than 5,800 journals in 164 scientific disciplines. Over 18,000 new articles are added each week.
  - Social Sciences Citation Index (1956-present)
    SSCI covers 4,700 of the world's leading social science journals, either comprehensively or selectively, plus a limited number of monographic series. Documents indexed include articles, proceedings, editorials, letters, meeting reports, and book reviews.

Foundation Center

The Foundation Center (New York City)
The mission of the Foundation Center is to foster public understanding of the foundation field by collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating information on foundations, corporate giving, and related subjects. The online library includes links to nonprofit resources, a foundation finder, an orientation to fundseeking tutorial, and more.
The Foundation Center (Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - CLP)
The Foundation Center print and electronic resources are accessible whenever the Main Library is open. Make an appointment (622-1917) if you will need assistance as the Center is not staffed at all hours. The web site has additional information.

- FC Search
  Over 60,000 U.S. foundation and corporate givers, with descriptions of over 250,000 associated grants.
- GrantSelect
  More than 10,000 grants available from public & private sources for nonprofits and individuals in U.S. and Canada; special focus on sponsored research opportunities.
- FD Online
  Over 60,000 US foundations, corporate givers, and grantmaking public charities with descriptions of ~150,000 more recent grants.
- Directory of Pennsylvania Foundations
  Profiles of Pennsylvania foundations, including grants list.
- Prospector's Choice
  Approximately 10,000 profiles of the top private and corporate foundations and corporate direct giving programs, with about 76,000 recent grants listed. Comprehensive biographical information.

Electronic
- LexisNexis Statistical
  This database provides electronic access to four important sources that index over 100,000 statistical publications. The ASI, SRI, and IIS components can be searched individually or in combination.
  - Statistical Abstract of the United States (1996-present).
  - American Statistics Index (ASI) (1973-present).
    Statistical information from United States government agencies.
  - Statistical Reference Index (SRI) (1980-present).
    Statistics published by state governments and private organizations.
  - Index to International Statistics (IIS) (1983-present).
    Statistics from international and intergovernmental organizations.
  Two search methods are available.
  - Power Tables takes you directly to individual tables containing your search terms.
  - The indexes and abstracts section enables a user to search the entire contents of the database.
  - CAUTION: Different search strategies are necessary for each section. Power Tables uses very specific index terms; indexes and abstracts utilize broader concepts. Using the "Subject List" for the latter type of search will usually provide the best results.
  The print editions of the ASI and SRI indexes and abstracts are available in Hunt Reference. Hunt Library holds the full text of ASI (1978-present) and SRI (1980-present) documents on microfiche. Some international statistics can be located in the University Libraries by searching the library catalog (CAMEO). Hillman Library (University of Pittsburgh) holds the IIS microfiche collection.
- National Center for Charitable Statistics (Urban Institute)
  The Center is a national repository of data on the nonprofit sector in the United States. Its mission is to develop and disseminate high quality data on nonprofit organizations and their activities for use in research on the relationships between the nonprofit sector, government, the commercial sector, and the broader civil society. The Center was established in 1982 and has been a program of the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy (CNP) at the Urban Institute since July 1996. One of the Center's links is to State Profiles of the Nonprofit Sector.
- Pennsylvania State Data Center
  The PaSDC is the Commonwealth's official source of demographic and economic data. Particularly of interest are the county and municipal profiles. The web site covers and exceeds the information available in the County Data Books (see below).

  Hunt Library holds volumes for the six counties that make up the Pittsburgh metropolitan area -- Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington, and Westmoreland counties. The spiral-bound data books include information on demographics, transportation, housing, income, and quality of life. Much of this data is available through the Pennsylvania State Data Center web site.
