Recommended List of What to Pack to a Comp
Hopefully this list will help you figure out what you need to bring to your
next competition. Some things might not apply. These are recommendations from
some of CMU's more experienced dancers.
- Dance Clothing
-
- Whatever nice clothes that you are going to wear (more detail below)
- Shoes
- Dance Accessories
-
- Towel - to wipe off sweat (only $8 w/ a pix of dancers on it :) )
- Safety pins - always come in handy
- Duct tape - tape your shoes if floor is too slippery
- Breath Mints - a generally good idea for dancers
- Pen & paper - to write down all the awards you are going to win to
get a new friends phone number
- Water bottle - might come in handy
- Small bag to carry it all in
- Remaining clothes
-
- Normal clothes for a trip
- You will want comfy driving clothes
- You will want clothes to just hang out in - like to wear in the
morning on the way to the comp
- Some sort of clothes to sleep in. There is no way to tell how many
people are going to be in the same room with you. You are not even
guaranteed same sex roommates.
- Sleeping Supplies
-
- Blanket / sleeping bag
- Pillow
- Alarm clock - It is nice to have on your own
- Bathroom supplies
-
- Towel for showering - you might be in a dorm or other place that might
not supply you with one
- Soap - again might not be supplied for you
- Usual travel bathroom supplies
- Driving supplies
-
- Tapes - Driving tapes are a good thing (PA has some lousy radio
stations on the way to DC.)
- Money - we will probably go out to dinner at least one night. And you
can probably count on a stop or during the drive for a quick bite. Also,
you need to arrange to help pay for gas.
- Food - food for the road if you want to bring it.
- Credit Card
- AAA Card
- License
- Insurance and Registration (for that little speed trap in West
Virginia on your way back from Ohio :)
Men
- Dark socks
- Belt(s)
- If you're wearing a tux, check that you have shirt, pants, bowtie,
vest/cummerbund, and jacket.
- Pants
- Shirts
- Hair Spray
- If you wear any make-up, see below.

- something to wash your face off with at the end of the day especially if
you are leaving right after the comp
