1984 VW Rabbit GTI looking for a new home
It's lonely sitting in the
backyard and needs a friend who'll clean it up, care for it, excercise
it, and perhaps put it in a yard with other rabbits to play!
It starts and runs just fine (Last run Dec. 5th, 2004, during a warm
spell) but it's been sitting long enough that the
brakes have rusted. It's been sitting for just about a year, and in sitting,
has starting showing some rust along the quarter panels, and bumper
mounts. It needs a steering rack (which was the main reason it got
parked) and a dozen "little things" that get let go* So it's a
project car, but one that would be rewarding to get back on the road.
It's got the 8 valve 1.8L. engine, 5-speed (amazingly not beat to hell,
and has been perfectly servicable when I was driving it). Timing
chain & gears replaced within last 5K miles. No A/C.
Passenger's window is a chore to crank down, drivers window worn, and
sometimes slips in the track going back up. Black with a red interior,
used, but not abused. The headliner fell, and I did an UGLY job
of pasting and stapling the fabric back up. Door interiors and
dash are intact. Velour/cloth seats are fuzz-worn, but intact. Aluminum
100cm centered wheels. Olde tires, year-old battery. Vent
windows intact.
Not currently inspected, and probably not safe to drive after sitting so long, so expect to tow it home.

* List o'little things:
- Low-beam headlight out
- Blower motor main power resistor bad (sometimes fan comes on, but only one
speed if it does)
- driver door light switch needs to be replaced (have part)
- cable for hood release needs to be replaced
- Crack (that passes inspection!) on passenger side of windshield (ugly)
- Back-up taillight lens missing (one of two)
- ???? (Car has personality - there's gotta be more. :)
Make offer! I'd like to see it go to someone who knows and loves these cars.
