Greek Sing is an annual tradition among the Greek community of Carnegie Mellon University. Each year, fraternities and sororities take the stage to perform in a musical variety show. Greek Sing is primarily designed to raise money for charity. In the past, thousands of dollars have been raised for such charities as The Pittsburgh Guild for the Blind, The CMU chapter of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program, and The National Multiple Sclerosis Society. However, Greek Sing is also a competition.

Greek Sing is a long-standing tradition here at CMU, although before the fifties it was a less significant event than it is today. Phi Kap won their early trophies in 1949, 1953, and 1954; the last was for first place.

After 1954, we did not again finish in the top three until 1961, when Rho Chapter took third place under the direction of Tom Good by singing "The Animals A-Coming" and another spiritual. Phi Kap was in a weak period overall from 1962-65, and we did not enter Greek Sing. Finally, after our membership had reached greater numbers, we entered a strong group in 1966 that finished in the top half despite lack of Greek Sing experience in the house.

In 1972, after a lull of almost twenty years, Phi Kappa Theta captured a strong second place and continued to dominate Greek Sing activity for the next decade, capturing six first place finishes in a span of eight years. In recent years, four Phi Kap men have held the top administrative position in Greek Sing as overall chairmen. They are Larry Long in 1964, Dick Immekus in 1968, Ray LeClair in 1969, and Colin McKechnie in 1978.

Since the late 1980s, the word booth has been synonymous with Phi Kappa Theta. Additionally, the 70s and 90s have been eras of success for the buggy program. What one tends to forget is that throughout these times, Phi Kappa Theta has had constant success in Greek Sing. In the last 25 years, Phi Kap has placed third place or higher in their division 19 times!
