Memory is at the heart of virtually all other psychological processes and behaviors. In this lab, we
focus on several aspects of memory, especially how information is organized and stored (acquired) in memory
and how it is accessed and used. We have developed a mechanistic model of memory, called SAC (Source of
Activation Confusion) that can account for many memory phenomena (e.g., feeling of knowing, implicit and
explicit memory results in recognition, cued and free recall) and makes testable, novel predictions about
tasks that have yet to be performed. We have also begun to use converging methodologies from neuroscience,
in particular fMRI, ERP, and psychopharmacological interventions using Midazolam, a benzodiazepine that
creates temporary anterograde amnesia.
