b-Propeller Structures Gallery The b-propeller class of proteins are characterized by the similar orientation of the b-sheets in the cores of their structures. They differ in the number of "blades" found in the propeller motif and in the extent to which a-helices and other structures are present. The similarities and differences can be seen by viewing these six examples (listed above by # blades):

The above listing also shows that these proteins perform a wide variety of functions in diverse organisms. Viewing Tips: 1. Color the displays by Group to see the course of the polypeptide chain from N- to C-terminus. 2. Several of these proteins have important ligands and/or prosthetic groups; you can visualize them by selecting Ligand (under Hetero), followed by Spacefill, and then CPK. |
