4B. Apply External Loads




In this part, symmetry conditions require that the tensile pressure load is applied to the quarter plate only on the right side(Uniaxial tension).


PREPROCESSOR -> DefineLoads

      DEFINE LOADS -> Apply

            APPLY -> Structural

                  STRUCTURAL -> Pressure

PRESSURE -> On Lines


ANSYS GRAPHICS WINDOW -> Select the line on the right side of the plate. Then click APPLY or OK in the APPLY PRES ON LINES Window.

APPLY PRES ON LINES -> Enter -20000 for the Load PRES value. The value is negative, because it is a tensile load. Note that values of the loads enter in this problem are all in pounds. (see Figure below)



Click OK.

The red arrows should now appear on the right edge of the quarter plate as shown in the figure.
