Project 3: Geo-wares
You are asked to design an interaction which makes use of both portable and fixed technologies, and which applies the Geographic Positioning System (GPS). Assume that the cost of a GPS chipset is not an obstacle (maybe $20) and that despite selective availability policies, that a resolution of two- to one-hundred feet can be achieved.
What would you do with position? As your response to this prospect, you are asked to design a coupling of mobile and a stationary elements: something that is embedded into a site, something that people bring to it, and the kind of interactive experience that this relationship facilititates. Your emphasis might be on the site/situation, on the portable/wearable gear, or on the design of the information that the coupling enables, but your design should somehow respond to all three.
You are asked to prepare a Director piece which illustrates your design and narrates an instance of its use. Use any combination of photo collages, sketches, digital models, pictures of physical models, storyboards, etc, that you feel best communicates your concept. You might want to say something about what kinds of clients or sponsors such a design might have, what kinds of geocoding (spatial database-building) might be necessary. Plan a ten minute presentation, provide a summary handout on paper, and submit a projector file.
