To prove: women don't have rights. For indirect proof, assume the opposite--that women have rights.
- If women have rights, then so do brutes. (the claim Taylor must defend)
- Brutes don't have rights. (assumption)
- Women have rights. (assumption for indirect proof)
- Therefore, brutes have rights. (1,3 Modus Ponens) [aha! a contradiction]
- Therefore, either premise 1, 2 or 3 are incorrect.
