The Malaysian Cultural Organization,
Budaya, is a student organization founded in Carnegie Mellon University.
Originally established in 1998 for the residents of the Malaysian community in
CMU, Budaya later coalesced with PPMP, a similar organization for students
studying at the University of Pittsburgh, in the year 2000. The organization
promotes Malaysian culture to the general community and aims to expose other
members of the community of the Malaysian heritage.
Our main objectives, apart from propagating and introducing the
richness of Malaysian culture, also include fostering closer relationships
among the Malaysian students with the Pittsburgh society. Budaya is also an
organization which is intended to maintain a close network of its members with
news of Malaysia.

Dear all, the time of the year has come again. SUMMER! or is coming i should say. :) and it's going to be time for Midwest again.
For those who do not know what Midwest is, it's a yearly Games event for Malaysian students around US to gather, kick ball, bounce ball, play ball, eat good food and 'lepak'. More formally, it's a big games event that encompasses sports events like soccer (of course), basketball, indoor soccer for women, volleyball, badminton, ping pong and tennis. Students (namely Malaysians) from universities around the States come together to mingle and have fun.
So, we will also be sending our very own CMU contingent as always. Registration for the Games have started. You can browse the website at: www.persisma.org
This year's Midwest Games will be held at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Last year's was at Purdue University, and I can bet that all who went can testify that it was a really fun event. :) Where and when else can you see more than 500 Malaysians making a din together at the same place? (except for Petaling St :) )
CMU will be sending the following competing teams:
1. Men's soccer 2. Women's basketball 3. Volleyball (tentative, depending on availability of players) 4. Abang Razol for tennis again this year? Go defend your title :)
and if anyone else would like to participate in individual events you are more than welcome to.
So the thing i would like all of you to do, if u're planning or even thinkign about joining us for the Games, would be to first browse the website at: www.persisma.org Think about whether you want to join the men's soccer team(though i think they've already have enough players, they would welcome more :) ), or the women's basketball team(we welcome all players yang ber-kaliber), or if you want to join Raja Hafiz for volleyball, he would be more that happy to oblige. (send him email at: rhafiz@andrew.cmu.edu )
Then, once you're done deciding, -Register ONLINE on the website at: http://www.persisma.org/temporary/army_register2.php -SEND EMAIL TO USAMAH once you've registered to let me know that you have registered and what have you registered for. (i.e. what games event, or whether you're only a supporter)
However though, you do not have to play in an event to join us. All supporters are welcome to. Just come to have fun and meet people. :)
There will be minimal fees for players, and also a $5 Malaysian Night admission fee, which will be a dinner and is open to players and non-players alike.
Also, lodging will be provided at their very own Games Village. The price for 3 nights is $59.99 per person. All information about the lodging is provided on the website if you want to research more about it.
So,
1. Browse the website at www.persisma.org 2. Decide what event you want to participate in , or just want to be a supporter. 3. Register online 4. SEND EMAIL TO USAMAH ujamalud@andrew.cmu.edu after you have registered. This applies to EVERYONE, whether or not you are participating or are just a spectator. We will be arranging transportation for everyone, so unless you are planning to get there on your own, please SEND EMAIL TO USAMAH.
Thus concludes a very long email..
Please read through very carefully though :) THanks!
Sincerely,
Dahlia
