Our family took a trip to the Ozarks and the states of Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas in August, 2000. Within Oklahoma, we saw stayed in Salisaw, made famous as the starting point of John Steinbeck's epic "The Grapes of Wrath." Salisaw is actually a green, hilly area rather than the part of Oklahoma which experienced the great "Dust Bowl" tragedy of the Depression Era. You can see this a bit in the pictures of Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge and the Cherokee Heritage Center. |
