the class is moving quickly, and the labs are difficult to understand without more examples given in class. =================================================================== I think this course is moving a bit too fast. I think things could be explained better and it would be helpful to go over the labs in more detail. ====================================================================== First part of the class (with Karel) could go a bit faster, while the most recent actual Java information could be introduced slower. What are the most important things you have learned in this class so far? That I shouldn't have been worried about taking programming for the last two years. ;) ==================================================================== The assignments are not exactly related to the lectures. More examples would be nice, too. ================================================================== the class started out great at a great pace, however we have made such big jumps in material since the karel. i have absolutely no idea how to even approach these new labs. we need more background and be slowly introduced to this material as we were with the karel material. i feel as if this class is being taught expecting us to have some previous background in programming although that is contradictory to the course description and purpose. ==================================================================== I could not be happier with the course. The pace is perfect. Even thinking back to classes in Comp Sci i have had, your pace is very appropriate to supporting a learning enviroment. Keep the same pace. =================================================================== i think the class is currently going a little too fast. it started out perfect, and it seems as though now we are supposed to find things that we dont even know exist. such as the I/0 class. i think that maybe the explanations and the lecture notes are lacking. the examples also would be better if we didnt just jump into these amazingly complicated problems, and rather we learned how to actually use the methods before we apply them. I guess I am just not being explained to how to use these methods. =================================================================== Too many labs. too many tests. The classes are going too fast ==================================================================== The labs are difficult to complete when we have barely covered the material necessary to complete them. I think we should learn how to do certain things by completing certain parts of our labs in class. ==================================================================== what's up with lab 5? ==================================================================== need to spend more time discussing which commands and how to use them to solve the hw, =================================================================== What we do in class does not prepare us for the homework assignments, AT ALL. In particular, Lab 5 does a lot more than we have even attempted to cover. I suppose the pace is OK, but more examples need to be seen, and the teaching needs to be relevant to the homework, or vice versa. What are the most important things you have learned in this class so far? I have learned basic Java skills, but I do not feel I can utilize the language to accomplish the tasks that I would like it to do. ====================================================================== I feel that mostly the class moves at a good pace...but there is so much information that it is hard to do the labs without A LOT of outside research, and work...I have to go to CS and ECE friends to get things re-explained... ===================================================================== If the instructor can set up a review session for the last lectures, that will be so cool. =================================================================== specific suggestions or complains do you have? It would be nice to have a breakdown of how this would be used in a practicle environment. With Karel there was direct feedback with the home work, but the extent of the possibilities for java seem to be getting confused now. I know that this may sound like a confused suggestion, but what it comes down to is that there is a missing link between the coding and the everday world. I hope that you understand this. I appoligize for the vagueness of this but I do not know much about the language nor how it can be easier to understand. ======================================================================== Just that i feel as though everything we are learning is not being intertwined with what we already know; if we learn data types and class overloading, we should know why and how they are interrelated. you have not yet told us what overlaoding is, and are seriously leaving us in the dust for this lab due on thursday. ====================================================================== The RATS tutorial is too confusing to use. It requires the user to have too much previous knowledge of java. Also, it seems as if neccessary commands are not covered in class. What are the most important things you have learned in this class so far? The labs help to learn java. The demos have been useful. ======================================================================= i am very satisfied with this class. however, i would like to point out that the vast majority of what i learn is taught by the ta's during office hours. they are doing a fabulous job of teaching. i feel i understand the material well and am confident in my work. in regards to clas time, i believe it is diffuicult to do more than you are already doing. i honestly didn't know a single thing about programming before this class, and i think it was wonderful how you broke it down into stesps. i honestly thoguht i woulod never learn programming, and becasue of the way you approach problems i have realized this isn't so hard afterall. you don't make the material esoteric. one tip, it would be very very very helpful to have alist of vocabulary words. What are the most important things you have learned in this class so far? i don't know. whatever. ==================================================================== the only guy that answers is that guy in the front ... nobody else knows anything ===================================================================
