JitKang Lim’s Research Group |
JitKang Lim was born in Muar (of the Johor state, Malaysia) and is a proud old boy of High School Muar. He pursued his undergraduate study in Chemical Engineering at Universiti Sains Malaysia and graduated in 2002. Later in 2009, he received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University working with Prof. Robert D. Tilton and Prof. Sara A. Majetich (Physics) and is currently an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Since Oct., 2009, he also holds a courtesy appointment as the Visiting Research Professor of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in United States. He was named Dowd Fellow of Institute for Complex Engineered Systems (ICES) in 2006 and has received Mark Dennis Karl Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award (2007) by CMU and Summer School Traveler Award of University California at Santa Barbara (UCSB). His invention of Low Gradient Magnetic Separation (LGMS) process has been conferred with Takeda Young Entrepreneurship Award (2013) by the Takeda Foundation Japan. Furthermore, his efforts in promoting the use of green technology to combat environmental problem has earned him Green Pinang 3A Certificate of Appreciation (2013) from Penang Green Council. He is actively engaged in international collaboration, working on numerous projects related to magnetic nanoparticles, and served as visiting scientist/professor of Korean Advanced Institute of Technology (KAIST), Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) and National University of Singapore (NUS). In 2014, he was conferred with National Young Scientist Award by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the highest honor which can be given to a young scientist at the age of 35 or younger. In the following year, JK was awarded with Promising Academician Award (2015) under prestigious Anugerah Akademik Negara (AAN) by Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia. This makes JK the first and the only one currently in the country who won both Young Scientist and Young Academician Award. In addition, he is the founding chair of American Chemical Society (ACS) Local Chapter in Malaysia. His current research interests focus on both colloidal behaviors and engineering application of magnetic nanoparticles.
