Regina Schulte-Ladbeck received her Ph.D. in astrophysics in 1985 from the University of Heidelberg. She came to this country in 1987, when she joined the research staff of the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In Madison, she was part of a team of researchers and engineers who built the Wisconsin Ultraviolet Photo-Polarimeter Experiment Telescope, which flew on the space shuttle in 1990 as part of the Astro-1 mission. After joining the University of Pittsburgh faculty as an assistant professor in 1992, she was chosen by NASA to become one of ten guest invesigators to use the telescopes of Astro on its second flight in the spring of 1995, the Astro-2 mission. Dr. Schulte-Ladbeck received numerous NASA awards for her role in the Astro missions.
