Finding a book in Hunt Library as we go from Dewey to Library of Congress

Areas being relabeled and re-shelved are listed on the= board in front of the aluminum doors.  Due to the fact that areas are constantly being labeled, it is impossible to gi= ve an exact location or call number as to where Dewey ends and LC begins.

Blue tagged items are books for which there were no LC labels.  They are in Dewey ord= er and will remain in Dewey order, though their location may change (they may move from one floor to another or to another section of shelving) as the project progresses.  Location changes = will be noted on the project update board by the aluminum doors.

To get LC number for books in Hunt when the catalog hasn’t been “flipped” (that is, still has Dewey Decimal c= all numbers), try Cameo or Workflows.  In Cameo, the LC number will appear in the bibliographic record View Option ALL, where it says LC call number.  In Workflows, depending on your se= arch and display, it will be either where it says LC call number or in the 050 or 090 fields (050 takes precedence over 090 if both fields are present and have LC call numbers). If there is = no LC number there, then you’ll need to use either Worldcat or OCLC to g= et the number.

Patron has Dewey call number for Hunt stacks-2 book: <= /p>

If area has not been re-lab= eled with LC, book will have Dewey number and be in Dewey order on the second fl= oor. Patron can go up and find it.

If area has been re-labeled= in LC, but is still in Dewey call number order, go to correct stacks-2 Dewey range= .  Dewey numbers appear on the verso = of the title page of the books.  You = can use that to get an “indicator” of where you are within the rang= e, and where the book might be shelved.  You can also look for an LC number if you want, to help you identify= the book (see paragraph 3 above).

If area has been re-labeled= in LC, and has been re-shelved  in LC order, get LC number (see paragraph 3 above) and look for book on shelf.

If you are unable to find the book, there are several options: EZ Borrow, seeing if the book is at the University of Pitts= burgh or at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh via their online catalogs, interlibrary loan.
