Fall 2010 - Summer 2011: We decided to clean up the messy area on the west side of the house, which was difficult to negotiate and which we had used mainly to dump construction debris, and to build steps there that would be easy to walk on.

I extended the patio by one bay at an elevation one foot lower to create a landing for the steps. I used concrete for the lower part, which had to accommodate an existing boulder I couldn't move, and wood salvaged from the original upper deck for the upper part.
