Welcome to Frank Demmler's Site
For over twenty years, I have been active in the entrepreneurial and early stage company investment communities here in Pittsburgh. I've been directly involved with three seed funds during that time. I've also advised hundreds of companies.
While I haven't kept count, I estimate that I've participated in over 200 separate investment transactions, from all perspectives (company, investor, and midwife), that cumulatively total over $500 million. They range from a $5,000 investment from a doting uncle to being a very, very, very small part of a $60 million VC-led investment in an optical switching company. These companies have gone on to raise literally billions of dollars from subsequent rounds of investment and liquidity events.
Since 1987, I have been an adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at the Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship of the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon. I joined the faculty full time in August 2003.
With this website and its evolving contents, I hope to share some of my experiences with those brave souls who are pursuing their dreams and launching their own businesses.
