This information was taken from a business directory for
1921-1922, published by the Luzerne Publishing Company. Livery stables
coexisted with garages as automobiles began to replace horses for
travel and transportation. A number of factories were in operation in
the early 1920s. A wide variety of goods and services were available to
Freeland citizens and their neighbors from surrounding towns. Many thanks are due to the friend of Freeland's history who
lent me this directory to copy. I also have a copy of another Freeland
directory from 1928-1929, but it may still be under copyright
protection and so
I'm not posting it. However, if anyone is looking for information from
that period and would like me to check that directory for them, just send e-mail and I'll be glad to
oblige. And if you know of other directories containing Freeland
