The FERLA-MARCINIZYN GUITAR DUO is devoted to the performance of diverse styles of music from Renaissance to Jazz. We are committed to inspiring audiences with interesting and entertaining programming accompanied by informal commentary. With musical language ranging from a Dowland galliard to a Piazzolla tango, we love to demonstrate how essential characteristics of music have changed very little from the 16th to the 21st century. Listeners from such contrasting venues as a flat-bed truck in East Liverpool, Ohio to Pittsburgh's Carnegie Music Hall respond enthusiastically to our concerts.

In addition to performances, we offer the following Educational/Residency Activities:

I. Workshops

In-school workshop for teachers and/or students (5th to 12th grade) covering some or all of these areas: technique, repertoire, history of the guitar and, theory applied to the guitar. Also, the many types of guitars and how to choose an instrument can be included in any discussion.

II. Masterclasses

Selected students (5th grade to adults in the community), both soloists and ensembles, come together in a non-stressful, relaxing, informal venue and play for and with the Ferla-Marcinizyn Guitar Duo who make suggestions about interpretation and technique.

III. Lecture-Recitals

Using classical and steel-string guitars and banjos, we can present an exciting, interesting demonstration for K to adults. Our presentation can cover everything from a discussion of the woods used in making instruments to a social history of the guitar. In addition to a purely instrumental program, songs from different periods can be presented as part of a "sing-a-long."
