This course is an introduction to the social, political, and economic forces that have shaped the more than two thousand-year old cultures and histories of Spain and Latin America. We shall trace the development of new expressions of cultural identity in the Americas, resulting from five hundred years of transculturation in Spain, Latin America, and the U.S., with a focus on the interactions between the different parties. Prerequisite: Completion of two of the three introductory 300-level language and culture courses or Instructor approval.
