| | 17-792 COS Seminar (Computation, Organizations and Society)
The COS PhD Seminar meets weekly to discuss research in progress and review recent literature in the computation, organization and society area. The purpose, beyond exposure to a broad range of technical, organizational, business and policy ideas, is to develop a critical view of the scientific process and literature in inter-disciplinary area of computation, organization and society. Each semester, the seminar group will identify a set of technical themes on which to focus in its review of outside literature. Each participant in the COS seminar will make at least one 45 minute presentation in a year on research in progress, and one critical summary and review of one or more published papers. Students will be evaluated on the basis of the technical quality, organization, and presentation of their material, ability to respond to questions, interaction and participation with the seminar group. On demand, related panels or seminars on cores issues of relevance to the group will be held, possibly with outside speakers. The Seminar is offered for graduate credit, is repeatable, and is intended to be an ongoing activity. PhD students in COS are required to register for this seminar on an ongoing basis, and all other graduate students are encouraged to attend. PREREQUISITES: None TEXT: Readings - will be provided on an as needed basis. METHOD OF EVALUATION: Students will be evaluated on the basis of the technical quality, organization, and presentation of their material, ability to respond to questions, interaction and participation with the seminar group. | |
