Limited to MPM students in the Educational Leadership concentration. This course focuses on an examination of the systems and support structures that underlie school leadership needed for today's society. It examines the components of school climate, the context for decision-making, the study of school management functions, the team approach to school management, and the balance of authority between school sites and central office. Additional topics include strategies for developing power-sharing school organizations, building community groups for the support of schools, recruitment and selection of staff, managing and assessing the instructional program, school politics, operation, and finance. Attention will be given to examining relevant trends and issues that do and will shape schools as needs and demands shift. Class sessions will draw upon assigned readings, the participants' experiences, case summaries, simulations, and class presentations and projects.
