| | 90-775 Management Seminar for Artists
This course is designed for performing artists, designers, directors, conductors and others who plan take on artistic or production leadership positions in non-profit arts organizations. The course will expose the students to basic management systems and strategies in these institutions: organizational structure/culture, boards of trustees, budgeting & financial management, marketing, fundraising, human resource management, and legal issues. The goal of this course is provide the students with a foundation in the fundamentals of management as it relates to arts organizations so that when they become artistic directors, conductors, resident choreographers, production managers, among other positions, they are able to communicate with various management staff and participate better in the various processes. The course is taught by Dan Martin, Associate Professor of Arts Management in the School of Drama and former executive director of theatre companies in NYC and Virginia. Guest lecturers are drawn from the region's performing arts executives, including Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh CLO, and Pittsburgh Symphony. | |
