This course provides students with guided practice in the observation, supervision, and evaluation of instructional staff. Using videotapes, class simulations, and related readings, students will develop expertise in determining appropriate administrative practices in assessing staff needs and in helping to plan staff development programs to address these needs. Through the study of school climate measures and related readings, students will be able to identify and document staff and program needs within schools and to identify planning and implementation strategies that will result in improved learning environments for students. Attention will also be given to topics that will assist school administrators with communication techniques, conflict resolution, and greater school/community involvement. Short-term assignments through out the term will give students additional guided practice in applying the skills acquired. This seminar-based course will emphasize class participation and sharing.
