History
of Freeland, Pa. Clothing stores listed in directories 1873-1901 |
|
What's on this page:
The Belles Clothing Store at top left is from the Freeland Progress and comes from Joan Buday. Note: "Clothiers" implied high-end stores, and "gents' furnishing goods" included men's clothing accessories and grooming supplies. Men's hats would have been found in some of these stores, and I have the impression that in many if not all instances the men's hats were manufactured elsewhere, while more often women's hats were made on site and sold by milliners, which I've got listed on a page with tailors and seamstresses who made, altered and repaired clothing for hire. So that's why men's hat sellers are here and women's are on a different page, because the men's hats weren't usually made by these businesses.
