Computer use in civil engineering based on commercial CAE and productivity tools. Topics covered include: (a) the program development process; (b) software use and development with tools such as spreadsheets, equation solvers and symbolic computing systems, computer-aided design and drafting, multimedia environments, and data exploration tools; (c) database management; and (d) basic computer literacy. Each student develops a prototype program using a commercial tool for an application of choice. Prerequisites: An introductory procedural language programming course, and graduate standing in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
