The Seminar in Software Process course is a self-study and discussion course. The Capability Maturity Model for Software provides the backbone for the discussions, but related topics, such as ISO 9001 and the Baldrige Award, are also covered. Discussions center on how to implement effective and efficient software processes. The focus of the seminar is on systematic approaches to doing software development and maintenance better. Other approaches to process and quality management that are discussed include Total Quality Management, Malcolm Baldrige Award, ISO 9001, ISO 15-504 (SPICE), and others, but the course is primarily structured around the material contained in the CMM. Specific topics that are covered included software project management, configuration management, quality assurance, process definition, training, peer reviews, team-building, change management, and statistical process control. Required Textbook: "The Capability Maturity Model: Guidelines for Improving the Software Process", ISBN 0-201-54-664-7, Addison-Wesley Publishing Company, Reading, MA, 1995. (Mark C.
