Did you know that the city has added more on-street parking near campus?
Anyone who has tried to drive to campus for a brief meeting or a class knows how difficult it can be to find a parking space on or near campus. Some use Devon Street while others circle through Schenley Park waiting for a space to be emptied. Those with residential parking permits make use of Devon (J permit) and Forbes Avenue beyond Margaret Morrison Street (K permit). Few, though, have noticed the new lane of parking on Forbes between Margaret Morrison and Beeler Streets.
Over the summer, one traffic lane of the quarter-mile stretch was converted to on-street parking. The area is part of the K parking permit zone, which extends east from Beeler Street through North Squirrel Hill. Parking is now allowed for one hour between 7 am and 7 pm, Monday through Saturday, on the side of Forbes opposite the Intramural Fields. Cars can park all day on Sunday.
The awkward spacing between the driveways on Forbes significantly restricts the amount of parking. Nevertheless, the half dozen or so spaces that remain are well situated for students visiting The Frame, the Margaret Morrison apartments, or watching a game at Gesling Stadium.
