We had a game at Queen City last year (I forget who we were playing). It was universe and someone hucked it deep to Dylan, who had no chance of catching the disc. I arrived at CMU ultimate after fencing for six years, including two years with the CMU Fencing Club, but with the love for frisbee that formed so quickly I’ve never really looked back. I may catch up on fencing after college, but it’s tough to imagine any sport being as exciting after the fun I’ve had with ultimate. What is your "go-to" move on the field?

I have a bunch of these it’s pretty hard to pick one. I think just finishing 2nd in the region in 2018 meant a lot to me because it felt like we had actually earned it. A huge growth from my freshman year in 2016 and sophomore year in 2017 where we finished 15th and 11th (I think) respectively and it really just made love that team so much more because we had worked hard for each other and it personally made me feel loved and appreciated.Do you have a favorite cheer or celebration?
All of the baseball cheers make me pretty happy. I also am a big fan of the cheers that make no sense to outsiders (like the rumble cheer) because it’s like a joke sorta cheer we can be into, and you can’t usually explain them to other teams and have them appreciate them the way we do.What was your first experience with Mr. Yuk?

What first got you into ultimate frisbee?
I first heard about Ultimate Frisbee in high school gym class, but we never actually learned any rules except for not being allowed to move when you had the disc. We only had enough people interested to play 3 on 3 and none of us knew how to properly throw a disc. When I got to CMU I was ready to play club volleyball because that’s what I played in high school, but once I witnessed Ultimate After Playfair and saw Scott Shepard skying everyone and people catching discs with crazy layout grabs I thought, “woah this sport is super cool!”. Once Brian Duff taught me how to throw a flick and I learned more about the rules, I was hooked. Also shout-out to lifting buddy The Ton for getting me in the gym and teaching me how to lift! What concept/drill are you most excited to teach to Mr. Yuk?
I pride myself on my defensive knowledge and ability to incorporate lots of different looks over the course of a game and season. Whether it’s person defense or some kind of junk/zone it’s great giving players so many different options for all the different types of situations you can be put in.Most underrated tip for success at college ultimate tournaments?
Fundamentals are key. I have learned so much playing the game, but even more in the last year after helping to coach CMU last year and getting the chance to coach Temper this past summer that I have a deeper understanding about how important strong fundamentals are in order to get a team to the highest level of competition. Also, bring lots of extra socks. Halfway through the first day at a tournament a fresh pair of socks can go a long way to keep you feeling refreshed and re-energized to play in those 3rd and 4th games in a single day.Occupation | Teachers Aide |

Most underrated tip for success at college ultimate tournaments?
Caffeine pills can be a great ergogenic aide for people especially late in the day for those tough last couple of games. Use wisely especially if you’re not used to caffeine! What concept/drill are you most excited to teach to Mr. Yuk?
Mr. Yuk has a lot of potential to get really good at a few things. I want to help Yuk be relentless on offense, running defenses into the ground through possession based strategy and work constantly at practice to develop a flow that won’t stop moving on the field. Defensively, I want to slow offenses down with a creative zone look and be as smart as possible. In the college game, I believe we can get turnovers by being disciplined and using our brains just as powerfully as our legs. We may not be the most athletic or tallest team, but we don’t want anyone else to outwork us.What first got you into ultimate frisbee?
I got into Ultimate my senior year of high school in Atlanta after a few friends convinced me to come out to practice with our high school team. Baseball wasn’t working for me, and I picked up ultimate quickly. One practice turned into many more, and I never looked back! I found myself competing and training at higher levels when I got to UGA, and I find that I enjoy helping people get better in many fashions.Occupation | Ph.D. student |

What concept/drill are you most excited to teach to Mr. Yuk?
As leadership advisor to the core, I’m most excited to teach them about Servant Leadership — how to lead the team by putting others first. With so many leaders on the team, I think this type of leadership will be an effective way of setting examples on and off the field that will enable the rest of the team to reach its full potential. Most underrated tip for success at college ultimate tournaments?
I’d say the most underrated advice I’ve been given is to constantly remind yourself what was said in the most recent huddle. When your name is called to play, repeat the huddle in your head. Repeat it again when you get to the line, and repeat it again when the pull goes up. Huddles don’t do much unless you commit yourself to improving, and you won’t improve if you forget everything when you step on the field. What first got you into ultimate frisbee?
I first got into ultimate my freshman year of undergrad, at the Notre Dame activities fair. I had planned on visiting Disc Golf since I played in high school, and happened to wander by the ultimate table, where a bunch of goons were giving the sales pitch of their lives about frisbee. I decided to show up to a practice, and sporadically went to a few after that until our first fall tournament. I had decided I would only play Saturday because I wanted to hang out with friends on Sunday, but that Saturday I couldn’t get enough of it, went back on Sunday, and haven’t looked back.
